DANA'S MINDFUL MINUTE: THE 2-2-2 RULE

Inspiration This Week: Love is in the Air

Thank you to those anxiously awaiting these emails for your patience these last few weeks. I have been utilizing some much needed time off to take next steps in my relationship and nurture it in just the way I'd like to describe in this week's post. So without further ado...

Theme This Week: The 2-2-2 Rule

If you are with a partner, you may have come across moments where the butterflies left and things felt a little bit stale. That's okay, it happens to every couple, you are not alone! But just because it's common, does not mean you should stay in that place of complacency.

So I bring up a standard relationship rule, the 2-2-2 Rule:

  • Every 2 weeks, you take a day to spend with your partner (date night)
  • Every 2 months, you take the entire weekend to relax and focus on romance;
  • Every 2 years, you take a week off and do whatever your hearts desire.

Seems simple right? Exactly, and it can be a great way to enrich your relationship and prevent any major lulls. This keeps us accountable to move out of that complacency and keep "dating" our partner. The reason why the butterflies and honeymoon period feel so good is because we are still dating our paramour. There is a sense of excitement, urgency, uncertainty, and less availability. When we get comfortable living with our partner or seeing them often, those elements tend to not be as present.

But don't worry, you can recreate them by following this rule! And I promise you do not have to break the bank to do it. You can create a movie theater at home, do a picnic in a local park, ask Auntie Jane to watch the kids for one weekend, find a local adventure spot and change of scenery, etc.

Challenge this Week: Implement the 2-2-2 Rule

Talk to your partner this week and brainstorm some date night, weekend get-a-ways, and vacations or staycations you'd both enjoy. Maybe add some new ideas in there! Treat yourself with one of those adventure or date night subscription boxes. Or do a little online research for some DIY date ideas. Either way, take the time now to prioritize your relationship and re-commit to always dating them to keep the relationship alive and well!
